Why the chnage?

Currently, the medical center uses a 4-digit campus zip (box) that begins with a "0". All incoming mail is hand sorted first at the Post Office, then again in the medical center's mail room, which takes considerable time and manpower.

In April 2007, Ann Arbor Post Office officials finalized a plan where incoming mail could be sorted and bundled for each department by the Ann Arbor Post Office BEFORE arriving at the medical center mail room.

In order for the Post Office's scanners to do this, the current campus (box) 4-digit code must be changed to a number that begins with a "5" instead of a "0". If your current Box is 0123, it will become SPC 5123. Your zip code would become 48109-5123.

What is an SPC Code?
SPC code is the term we are using for the new 4-digit code. It is an acronym for "Special Postal Code". It must be used in the NEW addressing format described below, appearing on the same line as the street address.
What is the correct format for using the SPC Code?

When should you start using the SPC Code format?

An official notice will go out to the entire Medical Campus in June 2007. We encourage you to start using the new code/format for all new stationery orders placed with Printing Services custom AND Online Catalog orders. The SPC code will ONLY be used for locations using a 48109 zip code with the street addresses at the top of this page.
